The resort offers 60 guestrooms, suites, and beachside villas and houses cooled by both air conditioning and ceiling fans. All accommodations feature four-poster beds draped with white muslin curtains and covered by white spreads. Decor combines wood tones and cool whites, including tongue-in-groove pine walls painted white, bleached-wood ceilings, sisal area rugs, white muslin drapes, white muslin-covered upholstered seating, Balinese-style teak furniture, wicker-back deck chairs with pull-out footstools, and latticed-leather dressing benches. Guestrooms and suites are located in seven two-story Mediterranean-style white buildings with red-tile roofs terraced into a hillside about 200 yards from the beach. Rooms and suites include terra-cotta-tile floors and feature wood balconies or ground floor porches furnished with Indonesian daybeds and minibars and providing garden or ocean views. Constructed of weathered Alaskan pine with wood-shingle roofs, six one-story detached Beach Villas and three one-story two-unit Beach Houses are arrayed along the beach. Separated for privacy and secluded about 100 feet from the ocean amid low dunes graced by natural vegetation, Beach Villas and Beach Houses have wood floors and feature large, screened, ocean-view wood porches accessible by louvered-teak sliding doors and containing Indonesian daybeds, teak deck chairs, and cocktail tables. Porches lead to weathered-wood sundecks furnished with cushioned lounge chairs, umbrellas, and hammocks. Sundecks fronting the three one-bedroom Beach Villas and the six one-bedroom Beach Houses contain heated plunge pools. Sundecks fronting the two two-bedroom Beach Villas and one three-bedroom Beach Villa contain heated swimming pools, with the three-bedroom Beach Villa's pool measuring a generous 40 by 24 feet. All bathrooms include blue-tile stall showers, separate tubs with flat wood rims, and twin-sink wood vanities. In addition to bathroom showers and tubs, the three one-bedroom Beach Villas and the three-bedroom Beach Villa feature spacious open-air shower gardens consisting of waterfall showers, wood-and-stone walls, and wood grates surrounded by smooth, bleached river stones. (The three-bedroom Beach Villa has two shower gardens.) Two- and three-bedroom Beach Villas include private, 24-hour butler service and full kitchens for butlers to prepare guests complimentary breakfasts and light lunches. One-bedroom Beach Houses and one- and two-bedroom Beach Villas include four-chair dining sets with gray-marble-top tables for room-service meals. The three-bedroom Beach Villa has six-chair dining sets. All accommodations provide flat-screen televisions, Bose Wave radios, Bose CD players, and DVD players. Operating in Europe and Asia as well at Parrot Cay, Shambhala Retreat offers massage, body treatments, facials, nail care, waxing, acupuncture (when available), yoga and Pilates, Ayurvedic therapy, and healthful meals available at the resort's two restaurants, from room service, and by the Retreat's pool. Facilities include a yoga/Pilates pavilion, a private-Pilates hut, men's and women's saunas, a unisex steam room, and a 35-by-12-foot pool and 12-person spa in front of a sunbathing-and-relaxation deck furnished with cushioned teak lounge chairs. Yoga and Pilates classes and use of the pool, spa, saunas, and steam room are complimentary. Massage, treatments, and therapy emphasize Asian techniques. Consultants from around the world like Ananta, a widely known Ayurvedic therapeutic massage specialist from France, visit periodically to train Shambhala's Asian staff and work with guests. Ayurvedic options include therapeutic massage (strong, penetrating strokes combined with yoga-like stretches), Abhyanga (rhythmic massage with warm herbal oils and powder), and Shirodhara (light neck-and-shoulders massage followed by warm, medicated oil gently poured on the forehead). Other options include shiatsu, Indian head massage, reiki, Thai massage, Indonesian massage, deep-tissue massage, and Chinese tui'na massage. Body treatments include Javanese Royal Lulur Bath (massage, aromatic-spice scrub, cool-yogurt application, bath, and body lotion), algae wrap, sea-salt-and-mud wrap, and an after-sun soother. Facials include Guinot Super Hydradermie Facial (electric currents to enhance penetration of gels and a fruit-enzyme peel), Dr. Hauschka Holistic Facial (cleanse, steam, masks, and foot, neck, and shoulder massage), and Sundāri Facial and Anti-Aging Hand Treatment, which employs the Sundāri Ayurvedic skincare line. Shambhala offers two special facilities for couples, a cottage and a pavilion. The L-shape cottage includes an air-conditioned treatment room and a screened porch containing a dining table, a steam room, a Javanese two-person day bed, and a square, two-person cedar soaking tub. The pavilion includes a square, two-person ceramic soaking tub, a blue-tile steam shower, and an outdoor shower garden consisting of a waterfall shower, wood-and-stone walls, and a wood grate surrounded by smooth, bleached river stones. A spacious, air-conditioned fitness center in a separate building near the spa is equipped with cardio and weight machines. Open 24 hours, the resort's library offers two computer stations providing complimentary Internet connections as well as a television, books, magazines, and table games. The library also includes a pool table and a room equipped with a television and beanbag chair for children to play video games. Coffee, tea, and cookies are available during the day. Complimentary afternoon tea is served daily. Parrot Cay also maintains a medical office staffed by a nurse during the day.
