When you're on vacation, it's so nice to not have a care in the world. And that should include where and what to have for dinner. So here at the Aura Cozumel Wyndham Grand Bay, all your cocktails and meals are included. It really could not be easier. In addition, we firmly believe there is a difference between just eating and dining. So please understand, Aura features only à la carte service, not buffet-style meals. What's more, on the property there are a number of venues to choose from, and we encourage you to experience them all. Each and every one has a great view of the ocean for you to enjoy. To offer greater variety, at night our lovely Isola restaurant is transformed into two options: Aura Gill and Trader's Lagoon, each featuring very different menus. You may also pick from three bars on the property or have a drink brought to you on the beach. Of course, room service is a daily option.

Restaurants

Isola: This sleek modern restaurant is your location for a delicious à la carte breakfast, with made-to-order omelets, exotic fresh fruit or even eggs Benedict. For lunch, choose from delicious, light Caribbean and Mexican inspired dishes such as roasted chicken or grilled fish. Island casual attire – please, no beach attire. To offer greater variety, at night our lovely Isola restaurant is transformed into two options: Aura Gill and Trader's Lagoon, each featuring very different menus. The Aura Grill offers a spectacular sunset and serves up delicious fare. This is your choice for dinner entrées such as succulent prime rib, a T-bone, or salmon steak in lemon butter sauce. Trader's Lagoon is your choice for dinner with a more international flair, but every entrée comes with a spectacular view as a side dish. Here is where you'll enjoy chicken au mango, beef tenderloin with Polynesian spices.

Hava Grill: For those who wish to eat lunch on the beach, this is the place. Casual and fun, the food is hands on and tasty. Great burgers, BBQ ribs or the traditional Yucatan delicacy pork pibil tacos, just to name a few. For dinner everything goes a bit more upscale, with items such as filet mignon or shrimp with banana flan and pineapple sauce.

Mosaique: As an added bonus, you may also dine at our sister Wyndham resort next door, in their lovely Mosaique restaurant. So easy, it's just a five-minute stroll away. Start your meal with spring rolls stuffed with shrimp or beef sate, then choose an entree such as a grouper fillet or honey-crusted chicken. Be sure to save room for their signature tempura cheese cake. It's not to be missed. Island casual attire – please, no beach attire. A reservation is required here.

Lounges and Bars

Brissas Bar: Brissas translates to breezes, and that's just what you'll feel relaxing at the bar. It's high atop a building and boasts two jacuzzis for both soaking and sipping. Cold beer and signature cocktails such as martini melon or martini tangerine are yours to enjoy. We think it might be the ideal spot to watch the sun set.

Hava Bar: This one is right on the beach. And when we're not serving lunch or dinner here, it's a great choice for a cocktail in our most casual setting. It's also the bar that has wait staff who can bring you a margarita poolside or even on our secluded beach.

Luna Lounge: This is our most elegant choice for a nightcap. It offers great views of the Caribbean and boasts intimate seating, friendly staff, and a full bar with signature cocktails such as a Don Julio martini or an island mojito.

Room Service

When you feel like you just cannot tear yourself away from your comfortable suite or private terrace, have room service bring you something special. A made-to-order ham and cheese omelet with piping hot coffee is great way to start the day. For lunch or dinner, try buffalo wings or crispy chicken tacos. We think a slice of margarita pie is pretty good just about anytime. Order from 7 AM to 10:30 PM.

“ 3 stars, maybe” The location of the hotel is good - not too close to the urban center, and in close proximity to excellent diving. The beach is terrific, as are the hotel grounds. Our room, which was adjacent to the beach, was small and dated, but it was quite sufficient for our needs. On the down side, there was a distinct odour of sewage at many locations throughtout the compound, we didn't have hot water 2 or 3 mornings, and the shows were generally uninteresting. The buffet at "la Isla" is the smallest I've ever encountered i.e. it has little choice, and the heaters were rarely turned on underneath the chafing dishes. Nevertheless, we never went hungry and the food was reasonably good. The best dining, however, is at Roberto's, but ya have to line up first thing in the morning to make reservations at 8 AM for that evening. The lineup starts to form shortly after 7 AM. Buffet and dining-room service is good, but the waiters are all hurried. I took that as a sign that they are probably understaffed. We went there for a diving holiday, and the dive center at the resort is excellent. Good service, good equipment, good staff at the shop and on the boats, and very helpful for all things related to diving. Internet access is available by WiFi in the hotel lobby I'd go back to the Wyndam again. Stayed at hotel Wyndham Cozumel 2010-02-24 to 2010-03-03 (7 days)
