Agent To Appear in Court Today A 24-year-old Vancouver man is behind bars and facing a fraud charge in connection with an alleged scam involving discount WestJet airline vouchers. Elliott Joseph Booth was arrested a week and a half ago, say police. Dozens of people say they bought the vouchers at discount prices from a man advertising on the popular website craigslist.com. The man claimed to be a travel agent, victims of the scam told police. However, the tickets weren't honoured by WestJet because they were paid for with a stolen credit card. The airline did offer victims flights for $50 as a goodwill gesture. Booth has used many names in the past, according to police and court documents. He has gone by Steve Cameron, Patrick Finn, Mike Liptka and others. One of the victims in the alleged scam dealt with a Mike Liptka. Booth is charged with fraud over $5,000 in that case. Booth will remain in custody until his next court appearance,
scheduled for today. |
