Council of Ontario (TICO) reports that on March 16, Andrew Carleton
Smith and Highcrest Management Inc. were each charged with one count of
acting as an unregistered travel agent in contravention of the Section
4(1)(a) of the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002.
Mr. Smith and Highcrest Management Inc. are scheduled to make their first appearance at the Provincial Offences Court at the Old City Hall, Courtroom “C” at 9:00 AM on May 24, 2007. This is not the first time Mr. Smith has run afoul of the Travel Industry Act. In 2005, when carrying on business as Carleton Productions, he was convicted, in an ex parte trial, of three counts of operating without registration, contrary to Section 3 (1) of the Act in 2005. He received fines of $3,000.00 per count. Formed in 1997, TICO is a not-for-profit corporation wholly financed
by Ontario-registered travel agents and wholesalers. It administers the
Travel Industry Act and the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund.
