Mexico’s Tourism Tianguis, Latin America’s largest trade event of its kind, and seventh in importance in the world, completed its 32nd edition on March 28. Since its inception, this travel trade fair has played a key role in the development of tourism in this country and has contributed in making it a destination of choice worldwide. This year, Tianguis welcomed 1000 buyers from 30 different countries, resulting in 18,500 business appointments with 500 tourism service providers as well as Mexico’s 31 states and the Federal District, surpassing the goal of 17,000 set by show organizers. THN was there.
The Riviera Maya is one of, if not the most popular Mexican destination for Canadians. It nevertheless continues to pursue its number one client group through its promotion. Tourism efforts towards Baja California Sur have never been as strong as they are now featuring destinations such as La Paz, Loreto, Todos Santos, The East Cape, Comondu and Mulege. La Paz, the capital of Baja Sur, has come into vogue as a renowned nature haven basking on the pristine sea of Cortes. There are no obstacles to keep tourists away with direct flights from Los Angeles with Alaska and Delta Airlines in addition to Aeromexico and AeroCalifornia. And a new non-stop flight from Houston to Loreto will begin operations in June 2007 with Continental Airlines. An hour’s drive from Los Cabos, East Cape proposes cozy hotels and unspoiled beaches. Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park has the only living coral reef in western North America. New golf courses are being planned: one PGA approved at the Azul de Cortes designed by Von Haggen due to open in December 2008; an 18-hole Gary Player at the ecofriendly Costa Baja Resort & Marina slated for completion in early 2009; an 18-hole course at Paraiso Del Mar will cross miles of pristine sand dunes and wildlife sanctuaries. Designed by Arthur Hills and slated for completion in December 2008, it will be Mexico’s first Audubon International signature project. Tianguis 2008 will open up to Latin America Starting next year, Latin American destinations and service providers will be able to participate in Mexico’s Tourism Tianguis. Tourism Secretary Rodolfo Elizondo made the announcement at an international press briefing at this year’s show. “After 32 years of experience hosting Tianguis, we are ready to open up our country’s premier travel trade fair to competition from other countries, which will encourage Mexico’s tourism representatives to strive even harder to stay ahead of other competition,” Elizondo explained. Nearly 640 national and international journalists attended the travel trade fair Tianguis 2007.
